House Panel Finalizing Mayorkas Impeachment Articles; Hearing Probes CCP Support for US Adversaries

The House Committee on Homeland Security convened on Jan. 30 to consider two proposed Articles of Impeachment against Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Republican committee members are expected to approve the articles, which will then go to the full House for a vote. Democrats have fought the process, saying it is nothing more than “a political stunt.”

The House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party is probing how the authoritarian regime is supporting America's adversaries. The hearing comes at a time of increasing geopolitical tensions as China seeks to garner a bigger role on the world stage.

The Biden administration is launching a working group with China to crack down on narcotics. Deputy Homeland Security Adviser Jen Daskal is leading a U.S. delegation to Beijing. The launch of the working group comes after years without cooperation from the Chinese communist regime.
