Countries Suspend Funding to UNRWA; Biden Vows Retaliation After Deaths of U.S. Troops in Jordan

Twelve countries have now paused funding for the United Nations' agency for Palestinian refugees, or UNRWA. This follows allegations by Israel that some employees of the agency took part in the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks. The European Union will also review its funding to the agency before deciding whether to cut its aid to the UNRWA.

President Joe Biden has vowed to retaliate after a deadly attack on a U.S. base in Jordan. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the president is still weighing all available options, adding that the response will be "very consequential." The White House says an Iran-backed group was responsible for the attack.

House Republicans have released two articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The allegations say the cabinet secretary has committed “high crimes and misdemeanors” related to his management of the Southern border.
