Blinken Meets China’s Xi Jinping in Beijing; Lawmakers Aiming to Expand Abraham Accords

U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on June 19 during his high-profile visit to Beijing. Both sides pledged to stabilize the badly deteriorating relationship between the two countries. Blinken's trip marked the highest-level visit to China by a U.S. official in nearly five years.

Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are aiming to counter the influence of America's adversaries in Africa. They are pushing the Biden administration to expand the Abraham Accords—a Trump-era policy that secured diplomatic relations between Israel and a number of Arab nations—on the continent.

California lawmakers will vote on Bill AB 665—which critics are describing as state-sanctioned kidnapping. The law would allow children aged 12 and upward to leave home and check into a residential facility without parental consent.
