US Added 119,000 New Jobs in Sept.; Trump to Meet Mamdani Friday

U.S. employers added 119,000 jobs in September, according to data delayed for weeks by the government shutdown. The unemployment rate rose to 4.4 percent from 4.3 percent in August. The increase in payrolls was more than double the 50,000 economists had forecast. But Labor Department revisions showed that the economy lost 4,000 jobs in August instead of gaining 22,000 as originally reported.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney's funeral will be held in Washington National Cathedral on Thursday. Former Presidents George W. Bush and Joe Biden will attend the service. Bush will deliver a tribute at the funeral.
